Santa Lives!
This Miracle on 34th Street-like happening is easily our best Christmas magic of the season. Today, all three of us were walking toward Barnes and Noble when Lola saw the back of a man with long white hair, wearing a dark red shirt. She said, "Santa!" Knowing he was out of earshot, I said, "No Lola, that's just an old man with white hair." We rapidly gained ground on him, because he was using a crutch, and so I held the door for him as we entered. He turned around, and we saw that beautiful, benevolent face with a kindly expression and a full white beard. Lola said, "Santa" in a low voice (after all, her mother had said that the man was not Santa). A second later, he turned around, smiled at us and said, "I guess I don't have to tell you to be good."--Merry Christmas, Kathryn

I love this anecdote. :-) We had a similar experience (though not quite as cool as yours) when we drove up to a private residence with a fabulous light display. The family was standing in the driveway, watching as a steady stream of cars drove by to look. Also in the driveway was an older man with white, flowing hair, beard, a wide leather belt and fur-topped boots. "Santa!" I thought to myself, but of course I didn't believe my own eyes. Then the mom of the family came over to talk to me and said "Did you see Santa? He has a real sleigh and he's going to come here on Christmas Eve!"
